OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY EVALUATIONS
Occupational therapy evaluations at Pediatric Development Center (PDC) are a critical first step in understanding a child’s unique needs and challenges. Through comprehensive assessments, our experienced therapists gain insight into areas such as motor skills, sensory processing, attention, and self-regulation. These evaluations allow us to create personalized treatment plans tailored to help each child reach their fullest potential. By identifying strengths and areas for growth, the evaluation process ensures that we can effectively support children in building the skills they need for everyday activities, enhancing their independence, and improving their quality of life.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE EVALUATIONS
A thorough speech therapy evaluation is critical to assessing your child’s speech and language abilities to determine the need for speech therapy services as well as identifying specific goals to be addressed if therapy is indicated. We believe in delivering quality speech therapy services to make you and your child feel comfortable at PDC. Our primary goal here is to ensure your child gets exactly what they need to be successful in their daily activities and life. We want to make sure the evaluation process is thorough, but also comfortable for all of those involved, including you and your child! We encourage parents to ask questions throughout the process to make sure you feel heard, understood, and knowledgeable about the process.
A speech therapy evaluation will give the therapist the opportunity to look at the different areas where your child may be having difficulty communicating. For example: intelligibility, difficulty with certain sounds, limited vocabulary, delayed speech, interpreting body language and facial expressions, perspective-taking, difficulty understanding basic concepts, following directions, and many more. The speech therapist will evaluate different skill areas depending on information provided in the referral and in the parent questionnaire.
The in-person portion of our evaluations typically last approximately 60-90 minutes which allows the therapist to gather a “snapshot” of your child’s skills and potential areas for growth. It is also the time for you, as a parent or guardian, to share any concerns and areas where you have observed the greatest need in your child’s day to day life.
